Q: Should I reupholster or replace my pontoon seating?
A: In most cases it is more economical to use high quality replacement seats. When you reupholster, the shop has to take the old seats apart and make patterns for the new upholstery. In many cases the foam also needs to be replaced and patterns will also need to be made for the foam. This takes a lot of time and therefore the cost goes up.
topQ: What if my carpet needs replacing and the wooden deck shows signs of damage?
A: If you are going to the effort of removing your pontoon seats, inspect your carpet and the wooden deck under the carpet. With the seats removed, it is much easier to replace the old carpet and replace the decking at this point. You'll find that EverythingPontoon, com offers complete refit packages that include marine grade carpet and lifetime warranted plywood.
topQ: What type of tools and skills are required if I do it myself?
A: You only need a few hand and power tools to achieve professional results. A socket set, cordless drill, carpet scraper and a few screwdrivers should be what you need.
topQ: If the wooden deck is bad, how do I replace it?
A: Once you have removed the seats, console, carpet and railing, remove the aluminum facia that covers the wooden stringers. Now remove the carriage bolts (or screws) that fasten the wooden deck to the stringers. You can either un-bolt them or cut them with a saw. Once you have removed the decking, clean the stringers and replace with our lifetime warranty plywood deck material using self tapping screws or new carriage bolts. If you have galvanized steel stringers, the new deck must be thru-bolted. You are now ready to install the new carpet.
topQ: How does the carpet attach to the wooden deck?
A: The carpet re-attaches using EverythingPontoon's exclusive roll on marine glue. We recommend "roll on" as the glue goes on more even and is much easier than troweling.
topQ: How do I know what size seats to order?
A: The aluminum railing around your pontoon defines your seating area. You need to determine the inside front to back length and the inside side-to-side width. Now measure from the back to the entrance gate on both sides. Also note whether or not your pontoon has a rear entry. Now you have the "living" area dimensions for your refit or makeover!
topQ: My console is wobbly and damp around the bottom, what can I do to fix this situation?
A: Odds are the base of your console has weakened due to moisture and rot of the wooden structure. EverythingPontoon.com offers a replacement fiberglass console that we manufacture. This gel-coated fiberglass console will not rot and includes a storage door as standard equipment.
topQ: How difficult is it to replace and install the EverythingPontoon.com console?
A: Simply unbolt your existing console from the wooden decking to remove. Disconnect any electrical wires and all gearshift and steering cables from the console. With the console against the right hand rail select a location for the replacement unit. Note that in most applications the console location can be moved fore and aft (front-to-back) by as much as 8 inches.
topQ: Can I change the location of my pontoon's seating and console?
A: Absolutely! Think of your pontoon's area inside the aluminum rails. As your "living room" on the water. You can rearrange your seating within the confines of the aluminum rails and move your console by up to 8 inches. Instead of a refit - go for a complete EverythingPontoon.com Makeover! Change your seating style, color or add a changing room to your layout. Install a new console and update your electronics.
topQ: Can I add other features to my pontoon, like a new ladder, table or Bimini top?
A: We at verythingPontoon.com can provide tables, stanchions and mounting hardware. You can place the table at a convenient location in your pontoon "Makeover". We also offer bolt-thru ladders. If you're thinking of replacing your fixed top with a new Bimini top, we've got you covered.
topQ: How do I get started?
A: Start by using our refit or Makeover planning section on this web site. Or, simply call 1-866-820-6142 and ask to speak to Dan.
